In this week’s blog, I share my recommendations for 7 of the best sales books to read to improve your sales skills. Hit play on the video or keep reading!

I am continuously learning; whenever I have any spare time, I pick up a book and read or if I’m in the car I’ll choose an audiobook or podcast to listen to. I recommend that you do the same, we should never stop learning in business.

Here are 7 of the best sales books I recommend you read that I have found really valuable in developing my skills as a salesman.

1. OG MANDINO- “THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD”

“The Greatest Salesman in the World” is one of the best sales books I have read in my time and it has had a huge impact on my career. The book was written to be read over and over again in order to instil good habits. It’s made up of 10 scrolls that are the key to success in life. Some of those scrolls are:

  • I will persist until I succeed
  • I will live this day as if it’s my last
  • I will act now

It’s a hugely inspirational book and one that I would recommend to anyone, not just salespeople so be sure to give it a read!

2. MICHAEL PORT- “BOOK YOURSELF SOLID”

The 7 Best Sales Books to Read- Book Yourself Solid
One element I found particularly useful about this book was “The Velvet Rope Policy” (Pictured) which is about learning to qualify your prospects and choosing who is right for you as a business. It teaches you that you don’t have to work with everyone. If you don’t like a particular client or you don’t think they’re a good fit for your business, you don’t have to work with them. It teaches you to be selective and choose clients that you want to deliver an outstanding service to.

3. GARY KELLER-“THE ONE THING

“The One Thing” focuses on how you can develop the habits to focus on now to get the results you want. So many of us procrastinate and waste time doing other things that won’t particularly benefit us. Gary Keller talks about doing the One Thing that will make everything else easier or unnecessary. It’ll teach you to be more productive and help you to build momentum to reach your goals.

Sales success is about being proactive and it certainly helped me to become more disciplined so it’s definitely worth a read.

4. ZIG ZIGLAR- “THE SECRETS OF CLOSING THE SALE”

Best Sales Books- Zig Ziglar Quote
Zig Ziglar was, in my opinion the Godfather of the sales industry. His book “The Secrets of Closing the Sale” is one of the best sales books to read if you need to persuade someone to say yes to you. It’ll give you actionable advice on improving your powers of persuasion and teach you how to get inside your prospect’s head and get them to say yes!

5. MIKE MICHALOWICZ- “THE PUMPKIN PLAN”

This is a book you may not have heard of but it’s one that I’d really recommend. Mike Michalowicz was inspired by the process that Pumpkin farmers take to grow giant pumpkins and realised the process can also be applied to business. They plant the right seeds, weed out the rotten pumpkins and nurture the healthiest ones. The same can be applied to business- your seeds are your customers and it’s important to focus on the customers and the areas you can really help them with. Weed out those you cannot help and nurture the ones you can and over deliver on everything you do for them. It’s a truly entertaining read and one that I would really recommend!

6. JEB BLOUNT- “FANATICAL PROSPECTING”

“Fanatical Prospecting” is, of course, all about prospecting. Job Blount outlines his approach towards successful prospecting and it will teach you valuable techniques to keep your pipeline full of qualified leads for more consistent sales success.

7. GRANT CARDONE- “SELL OR BE SOLD”

The final item on my list of best sales books to “Sell or Be Sold” by Grant Cardone. Cardone is a leading expert in his field and so this book will not disappoint. He takes a no-nonsense approach to selling and getting what you want from life. It’ll teach you that to sell what you are offering, it’s absolutely vital that you believe in it yourself. You’ll also learn how to overcome rejections and turn negative situations into positives. As we all know, in sales you have to be resilient and this book will explain how to build your resilience to achieve success. So, there’s my list of sales books to read if you want a successful career in the sales industry. Learning from the experts is a great way of expanding your knowledge and developing new techniques that you haven’t yet tried. Do let me know what you think of these books or, if there’s a sales book that has helped you achieve success that I haven’t mentioned leave a recommendation below- I’m always on the lookout for a new read!
